Presented as visual narrative through the use of acrylic painting, textiles and installation pieces, this exhibition maps the artist’s journey of late diagnosis, autistic burnout and identity redevelopment in a deeply personal and vulnerable way.

Known for her artistic practice and her contribution to community arts, Southern Tasmanian artist Kat Scarlet has a distinctive style of hyper-colour, rich detail, pattern and perspective.

This immersive exhibition invites audiences to take a retrospective journey through Kat’s years of diagnosis and burnout, using her art as story telling. Showcasing her newer textile works which embrace bold textile form, sequins, humour and unapologetic queer expression alongside her well known landscapes.

More than an exhibition, Slightly Awkward : An Autistic Response to Society creates a space for audiences to consider questions around identity, difference, ableism, belonging and the often invisible ways people navigate the world.
